LIHU’E — Liko Pereira held the Hanapepe Rivermen to just nine hits in eight innings during his work on the mound, as Kalaheo Kaneshiro Farms rolled over Hanapepe, 15-5, Sunday in AJA (Americans of Japanese Ancestry) baseball.
Pereira not only went the distance on the mound for Kalaheo, he was one of the batting leaders in their offensive movement as well, driving in three runs in his 2-5 showing in the batter’s box.
The Kalaheo Farmers hammered out 19 hits for their 15-run showing, with Keola McCallum (2-3) joining Pereira in driving in three runs on a pair of singles to lead the Kalaheo bats.
Kainoa Santos (4-5) came up with a mixed bag of hits including a pair of doubles, a triple, and a single, as he joined Kaleo Saiki (4-4), Kendrick Caspillo (2-2), and Troy Kaneshiro (1-5), as each batter chalked up two RBI apiece in the win.
Zoom Bukoski (2-5) drove in a run with a single and a double.
On the mound, Pereira finished with three runs allowed on nine hits while striking out five Hanapepe batters, and walking a pair.
Keith Nonaka, strapped with nine earned runs, suffered the loss for Hanapepe.
Quentin Natividad (2-5) and Keith Nonaka (1-3) each drove in two runs. Brenden Hew (2-4), Leroy Nonaka (2-4), and Vince Nitta (1-3) each got hits for the Rivermen.
Makaweli 10, Lihu’e 7
Jason Nakata gave up no runs on five hits while striking out a pair, and walking three Lihu’e batters in seven innings of work, in Makaweli’s 10-7 win over Lihu’e.
Makaweli also got pitching from Cody Dotario and Leighton Otoman, Dotario allowing three earned runs, while Otoman allowed two Lihu’e runs to cross the plate.
Stanton Yoshimori, giving up eight runs on nine hits in four innings, was strapped for the loss. Andrew Renaud came in to finish for Lihu’e, allowing a run on four hits while whiffing three, and walking an Indian.
Makaweli third-baseman Michael Shimatsu (4-5) had the strong bat for the Indians, with six RBI on four singles. Sean Jardin (3-4) added to the scorebooks with a pair of RBI, and Ikaika Pezario (3-3) and Travis Shigeta (1-3) each drove a run home. Otoman (2-3) and Dotario (1-4) also had hits for the Indians.
Lihu’e outfielder Bobby Texeira (1-4) found the mark Sunday, as he drove in a pair of RBI for the Builders. Curtis Sadamitsu (1-2) also drove in a Lihu’e run on a two-bagger.
Dan Tanimoto (2-4), Renaud (2-4), Yoshimori (1-4), Mikey Cardinez (1-3) and Blaine Nakano (1-1) all recorded hits for the Lihu’e effort.
