Introduction to Buddhism in America, is a dialogue with Buddhists and others, beginning Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Lihue Hongwanji Mission on Kuhio Highway in Kapaia.
The Rev. Midori Kondo leads the discussions, based on the book “Ocean: An Introduction to Jodo-Shinshu Buddhism in America,” by the Rev. Kenneth Tanaka.
The sessions are the first Tuesday of each month at the same time and location.
According to Kondo in a press release, “Ocean” presents an easy-to-read overview of Jodo-Shinshu Buddhism and its relevance in contemporary American society.
Copies of “Ocean” may be borrowed or purchased from Lihue Hongwanji leaders.
The sessions are open to anyone with a desire to know more about Buddhism and contemporary Buddhism in America.
No previous knowledge or experience are needed. After the formal session, a talk-story session is from 8 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
There is plenty of free parking at the hongwanji. The series is free and open to the public.
