KAPA’A — Adop Lopez and Kaleo Cummings hit treys, David Mendes and Matt Lindsey popped a pair of field goals as the Kapa’a JV basketball boys pulled away from a 3-point half-time lead, Friday.
The junior Warriors outdistanced Waimea, 22-6 in the third period enroute to a 52-34 victory at home.
Lindsey finished with a game-high 11 points in the win followed by Kekoa Prem and Mendes chipping in 8 points each. Cummings ended the day with 7 points, and Thomas Gausepohl added six.
Lopez and Bryson gonsalves each finished with 5 points, and a pair by Kelvin Villanueva closed the score-books.
Waimea continued to battle, one fan noting that despite the big Kapa’a lead, the junior Menehune played like it was a 2-point game.
In the fourth period, Waimea out-shot Kapa’a 17-16 as Steven Rivera notched is game-total 5 points, a field goal and a trey, in the period.
Howard Halog got four of his game-total in that frame with Ronnel Constantino and Daniel Lizama adding pairs.
Halog and Kaimana Girod paced the Menehune effort with 8 points apiece followed by Rivera adding 5 points. Lizama and Constantino each finished with 4 points and pairs from Clareson Torres and Micah Moriwake rounded out the westside math.
Prior to Friday evening’s tipoff, the JV squads from Kaua’i, Kapa’a, and Waimea were deadlock at 3-3 in team standings.
The Kapa’a JV travel to the Raider-dome Tuesday to do battle with the Red Raiders.
Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
