LIHU’E — Keenan Anaya and Jarred Perry, both seniors at Kaua’i High School, qualified for two Hawai’i High School Athletic Association (HHSAA) events at the KIF Qualifying Swim Meet Saturday.
Hosted by Island School, who also fielded a double qualifier, the Kaua’i High School swimmers finished by day dominating the pool with a combined score of 444 followed by Kapa’a High School at 210. Kula holds the third berth at 114 followed by Waimea (87), and Island School (69).
Kaua’i High School also controls the Women’s team rankings at 211 followed by Kapa’a at 135, Kula (69), Island School (53), and Waimea (38).
Red Raider men swimmers also lead the team standings at 233 followed by Kapa’a (75), Waimea (49), Kula (45), and Island School (16).
In addition to Anaya and Perry’s dual qualifications, the Kaua’i High School 200 Yard Medley team qualified for the HHSAA state meet with a first finish of 1:54.26. The HHSAA qualifing time for this event is 1:55.00.
Team members include Anaya, Perry, Aaron Ramelb, and Kelsey Tanaka.
Anaya’s double qualification came with a first finish in the Boys 200IM where he stopped the clock at 2:07.27 (2:15.20 HHSAA), and in the Boys 500 Yard Freestyle where he finished first at 5.10.00 (5:26.00 HHSAA).
Perry’s double qualification included a commanding finish in the Boys 50 Yard Freestyle where he stopped the watch at 22.77 (23.80 HHSAA), and edged out Island School’s Ben Baldwin in the Boys 100 Yard Breaststroke at 1:05.36 (1:07.43 HHSAA).
Baldwin’s 1:05.40 second place finish also earned him an HHSAA berth. Baldwin’s second qualifying event came in the Boys 200 Yard Freestyle event where he stopped the clock at 1:53.75 (1:57.50 HHSAA).
The KIF Swimming Championships will be held on Saturday, Feb. 11 at the Kaua’i High School pool.
