KALAHEO — Siarah Perreira ignited the crowd at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center Monday as her bucket dropped for the Lihu’e Kamakaze.
However, it was the high scoring of Courtney Contrades that led the Kamakaze to an 11-6 showing over the persistent Island School squad at the latest outing of the county’s 12-and-under girls’ basketball league. Contrades finished the night of skill-building with four points.
Perreira followed with three digits, followed by Lacey Lucas adding a pair for the win.
“She’s going to be real good,” Kaulupono Girls Brandee Victorino and Cassandra Owens noted while waiting for the rest of their teammates to show up. “Right now, I think she drives the team.”
The pair of Waimea girls were talking about Hartley Dabin, who finished the game with three points to lead the Island School effort.
But, beyond the scoring, Dabin, the blue-shirted point guard, added considerably to the Island School effort by being able to move the ball around the court over the swarming of the Kamakaze defense.
Dabin graced the ball movement with passing through traffic to get the ball to their low-post player, Hayley Uliana, who managed a single point in the outing. Chelsea Chock finished with two points for the night.
Vakeesha Lagazo and Searra Kaohi each finished with a game-high 10 points to lead Kaulupono Girls to a 32-14 win over the Westside Hornets in the finale.
Lagazo netted six of her points in the second half, and Kaohi notched six of her points in the final period.
Rosalleah Palma and Victorino each finished with four points. Makamae Compoc and Owens chipped in two points each.
Cheyenne Duarte led the Hornets’ scoring with four points, Rea Acorda contributed three points, and a pair from Moana Lee rounded out the effort.
Vinda Carineo and Cliffton Callejo lit up the boards for 17 points and 15 points, respectively, as the Hornets flew over the Kaua’i Fire Raiders, 52-28, in the first of three contests played Saturday.
Kameron Perez led the Raiders with 13 points.
Keane-Shane Agoot settled a see-saw game two with a game-high 11 points to lead Eastside to a 28-23 win over Hanama’ulu, who saw Kaimana Jaquias lead the charge with six points. Kahale Fagarang and Kalen Kimura each added five points for the Hanama’ulu effort. Keoni Kiezie contributed six points to Agoot’s lead.
Donovan Harrison finished with 10 points to lead the Gee Unit A to a 40-17 romp over the Kalaheo Tigers in the finale. Hunter Bilbo and Joe Duronslet each finished with eight points to help the win.
Shawn Tavares and Taylor Nix led the Tigers with four-point performances each.
