South Shore Ka Leo potluck today
For residents of the communities of Koloa, ‘Oma‘o and Po‘ipu, there will be a potluck gathering at the Po‘ipu Beach Park main pavilion today from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. to discuss how Ka Leo O Kaua‘i can get more people involved in its activities.
Participants will have the chance to meet others from the South Shore, talk about concerns and discuss future goals and projects.
Massey speaks to Historical Society
Officials of the Kaua‘i Historical
Society present artist-historian Raymond A. Massey in a discussion on his research on the HMS Starling and HMS Sulpher, under the command of Capt. Edward Belcher, as they charted Hanalei Bay in the 1830s.
Massey’s presentation will include a display of the Hanalei Chart (based on the actual chart produced by those in Belcher’s survey expedition), and slides of his latest work, tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. at the Aloha Beach Resort-Kauai in Wailua.
This program is free and open to all.
For more information, call KHS at 245-3373.
Watershed Council meets Saturday
The Kaua‘i Westside Watershed Council’s regular agenda for this month’s meeting is suspended so public comments can be heard, according to a press release.
The council and its guests meet the last Saturday of each month, including March 25 from 10 a.m. to noon, at the Hanapepe Recreation Center.
The council is finalizing the Kaua‘i Westside Watershed Management Plan, which includes strategic development, emergency planning and best-practices documents, and is seeking public comment on all of those.
“Your response is needed to make this community-development plan truly Westside’s ‘ohana,” council leaders said.
Comments will be forwarded to representatives of appropriate county, state and federal agencies.
The public is welcome.
