Spring-break activities on at Kukui Grove
During spring break, this week for most students in public schools on the island, Kukui Grove Center officials said in a press release there will be BounceHouse Kauai inflatable jumpy castles for use by the keiki from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday.
Also on Friday, members of the Lihue Baptist Church Youth Group offer a special presentation from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., followed by live music from the group Natural Harmony from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
On Saturday and Sunday, the spring sidewalk sale takes place, with the keiki fun bounce houses at two locations on the mall.
Machado canoe race coming soon
Leaders of the Niumalu Canoe Club in a press release announced the scheduling of the seventh annual Randy Machado Iron Canoe Race April 8 at Kalapaki Bay.
The coaches’ meeting is at 8 a.m., and the women’s and men’s mixed race will start at 8:30 a.m., followed by the men’s race.
Lunch, live entertainment and an awards ceremony follow.
Club leaders also said practices for the children’s program (ages 10 and up) will start tomorrow at 4 p.m., on Kalapaki Beach.
Practices are every Tuesday and Thursday from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Paddles will be provided.
Participants should bring drinking water and towels.

Broadcasters offer scholarships
Officials with the Hawaii Association of Broadcasters, Inc. (HAB) are offering more than $64,000 in academic scholarships to assist students in their pursuit of college study and their career goal of working in the broadcast industry in Hawai‘i, they said in a press release.
A full $7,500 will be awarded to leaders at Hawaii Pacific University for HPU students, and University of Hawai‘i-Manoa officials will receive $7,500 for UH-Manoa students.
An other $49,500 will be awarded to students at-large.
High-school seniors planning to attend college, and college students with at least 2.5 grade-point averages, and the desire to work in the broadcast industry in Hawai‘i upon completion of school, are eligible for at-large scholarships.
The application process requires a completed application form, a letter of recommendation from a current or former teacher, and completion of a personal interview with members of the HAB scholarship committee.

The Hawaii Association of Broadcasters, Inc. is made up of representatives of radio and television stations, advertising agencies, and individuals whose common goal is to support and benefit the local broadcast industry.
Book sale set for the Koloa Library
Members of the Friends of Koloa Library will be having a used book sale on Thursday and Friday at the Koloa Public/School Library, they said in a press release.
The sale will be from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. on both days in the library meeting room.
There will be lots of good-quality used books, videos, CDs, and books on tape, at bargain prices. All proceeds will go to support purchases of equipment and materials for the Koloa Public/School Library.
