Funding from the Hawai‘i Community Foundation’s 2006 Crystal Meth Initiative is available to organizations that provide crystal methamphetamine (Ice) prevention or treatment programs on the island of Kaua‘i. Proposals and accompanying materials must be turned in or postmarked to the Hawai‘i Community Foundation’s Honolulu office by April 14, states a press release.
Prevention programs
The purpose of this RFP is to increase the scope and reach of drug prevention and education programs to youth and adults at risk for substance abuse. Funding is available to reduce and prevent drug use by mobilizing the local community, filling gaps in community prevention services and implementing prevention approaches.
Approximately $480,000 is available for the funding of prevention programs on Kaua‘i. Awards of up to $75,000 will be made per grant. Only projects that include a clear and specific drug prevention and education component will be funded.
Organizations that have a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status, are faith-based organizations or public education and other government institutions are eligible for funding under this RFP. No fiscal sponsorships will be considered.
Treatment Programs
The purpose of this RFP is to provide referral and payment services for Kaua‘i residents to timely access of off-island residential substance abuse treatment programs. Funding shall enhance and not supplant existing funding. There is approximately $450,000 available for one organization to provide island-wide service.
Organizations that have 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status can submit a proposal. In addition, applicants must have three years of experience providing island-wide outreach services, and three years experience in the provision or funding of treatment services.
