Holiday closings listed
In observance of Prince Kuhio Day, all county refuse-transfer stations will be closed on Sunday. County offices will be closed on Monday, according to a press release.
The Prince Kuhio Day holiday Monday is a county and state holiday, so public libraries and most other state facilities will be closed.
As it is not a federal holiday, all post offices and other federal offices will be open with normal business hours.
Kaua‘i Bus schedule expands
Officials with the county’s Offices of Community Assistance Transportation Agency announced in a press release the expansion of services for The Kaua‘i Bus.
Starting with Prince Kuhio Day holiday Monday, The Kaua‘i Bus will be operating on holidays on a reduced schedule, with the exception of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.
“We wanted to provide this service for awhile,” said Rapozo.
“Now that we have a number of new buses and funding approved by the County Council, we’re finally able to launch the holiday bus service.” In addition to Prince Kuhio Day, The Kaua‘i Bus will also be running on the following holidays: Good Friday, Memorial Day, Kamehameha Day, Independence Day, Admissions Day, Labor Day, Election Day, Veterans’ Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and Presidents’ Day.
Monthly bus passes are available for sale at the Department of Finance counters in the Lihu‘e Civic Center Mo‘ikeha Building. The cost is $15 each. Individual fares are $1.50 one-way for adults.

Wilcox hosts legislation awareness session
Residents can learn more about the status of emergency services on Kauai and the quality of access to health care for Kauai residents Tuesday at Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
The House Committee on Health will hold an informational briefing on “Access to Health Care and Emergency Services” on Kauai.
The event is Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in conference rooms B and C.
Present will be members of the state Committee on Health, Rep. Dennis Arakaki, chairman and Rep. Josh Green, vice chairman.
Wilcox is hosting the event to educate residents to the lack of emergency medical services, particularly in rural areas, that jeopardizes the health and safety of residents.
There is currently a package of emergency medical services bills making its way through the state Legislature and organizers want the public to know more about the process.
Organizer’s feel this is an opportunity for the community on Kauai to discuss their needs and concerns related to emergency health care with lawmakers.
