Congratulations to Judge Alfred Laureta, Derek Kawakami and Dane Oda on earning their positions on the Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative board of directors! Dane was on hand Saturday, with Alton Miyamoto, Phil Tacbian (we got his right side), Ray Paler and Dennis Esaki, as everyone waited for the results to be announced. This is a good group of guys to spend time with, since conversation ranged from the big pond next to the West Kauai Hongwanji Mission, Waimea Temple to the North Shore. And, Phil is the best, since he remembers the days of Mr. Choriki delivering kerosene in the green truck. No kerosene, no cooking, and no light!
Richard Minatoya, first deputy prosecuting attorney, was extolling the virtues of all those people in the EOC (Civil Defense emergency operations center) that never got the limelight. When did Gregg “Squeaky” Morishige go home? Richard was working with Dean Toyofuku in setting up the places for the talk-story sessions for U.S. Rep. Ed Case, D-Neighbor Islands-rural O‘ahu, Saturday. Evelyn Olores was on hand at the Waimea Neighborhood Center, and wasn’t that Happy Pleas-Preble’s old Isuzu Trooper in the parking lot?
Janice Bond was happy, since her Nagasaki Friendship Force members had something to do. The group was at the Garden Island Orchid Society Spring Fantasy orchid show and sale Saturday at the Hanapepe United Church of Christ. Richard Teragawa and Gwen Teragawa were worried about the Camper floating away, but no worries. Hats off, too, to Amy Sugano and Judy Matsumoto, for making sure that everything went well with the show that was a bright spot for many visitors and residents.
