The wet weather definitely affected the creative mind of local artist Robin McCoy.
Known for her outdoor, plein-air paintings of plantation houses and flowers, McCoy has been spending much of her time indoors, or on her porch, where she could be protected from the rain, so she could paint.
“It’s horrible. It’s definitely affected me,” she said.
“I’m all about color and light, and it’s been nothing but gray and gloomy,” McCoy said.
She said that none of her plein-air colleagues have been doing much lately.
But, luckily for McCoy, she was able to pump out a few brightly-colored paintings for an open show she has up at the Kalaheo Coffee Company & Cafe, across Kaumuali‘i Highway from Brick Oven Pizza.
“There’s a ginger, a pineapple, and some bromeliads. They were some of my new paintings,” she said.
The show she currently has up is part of an ongoing show that will be up for the next month. The works are also for sale.
McCoy has lived on Kaua‘i for more than 31 years, and has been commissioned to paint many plantation homes.
