Applications for the 2006 Young Women in Public Affairs Award are now available from all high school senior counselors, said a spokesperson for the sponsoring Zonta Club of Kauai in a press release.
The original mid-March deadline has been extended to April 7 due to the continuing bad weather.
The goal of the Young Women in Public Affairs (YWPA) Program is to encourage more young women to participate in public and political life by recognizing a young woman’s (ages 16 to 20) commitment to the volunteer sector, evidence of volunteer leadership achievements, and a dedication to the advancement of the status of women.
Applicants are asked to reflect on their lives, their commitment to the communities in which they live, and the role models who have inspired them to become involved in their community or in a specific prospective career.
The Zonta International Young Women in Public Affairs program leaders look at the young women of today as the leaders of tomorrow.
Applications are due to the Zonta Club of Kauai, P.O. Box 3032, Lihu‘e, HI 96766. Applicants must be pre-university or pre-college students (ages 16 to 20).
Zonta International, with world headquarters in Chicago, is a worldwide service organization of executives in business and the professions working together to advance the status of women.
The Young Women in Public Affairs Award is one of many programs for women and girls sponsored by Zonta International leaders.
The award is funded by voluntary contributions to the Zonta International Foundation.
