Passover has been the Jewish people’s collective memory of an unforgettable historical experience: the Jewish people’s bondage in Egypt, and their miraculous liberation.
It is a saga filled with suspense, drama, magic, miracles and psychological insights.
Moses (Moshe) is the hero as prophet, teacher and liberator.
On the first two evenings of Passover, the home is the setting for the seder, the Hebrew word for the “order” that is followed during the ritual festival meal.
The story of the Israelites’ enslavement is read from a Hebrew book called the Haggadah (the “telling”), whose main purpose is the perpetuation of historical memory and timeless Jewish values.
The spiritual and emotional meaning of the holiday is experienced by way of prayers, psalms, songs and stories.
