Surf mag, sports Web site to help clean-up Po’ipu
Life’s a beach, and then you clean it up.
That’s the motto for Nalu Underground surf magazine and TheSpiritofSports.com, both based on Kaua’i, who are sponsoring a Po’ipu Beach clean-up on Saturday.
The group plans to meet up at 8:30 a.m. at Po’ipu Beach and then move along the south shore from Maha’ulepu to Acid Drop.
A concert is scheduled after the clean-up at 1 p.m.
“We just want to give back to the community that’s been so good to us. That’s really what it’s all about, showing love for the land we live on,” TheSpiritofSports.com co-creator Richie Petersen said.
The event is a benefit for the Boys and Girls Club of Hawai’i.
Other participating sponsors include the Po’ipu Beach Broiler, Maile Kaua’i, Koloa Natural Foods, Joe’s On The Green, The Beach House Restaurant, Daniel C. Schmidt (RA) of REMAX Kauai, Kauai Cove Cottages, Jungle Girl, SBOL Web design services, the Poipu Beach Foundation, Stoopid Chikin Wear, A Hideaway Day Spa, Garden Angels Inflatables, the Window Doctor, Ken’s Mobile Automotive Service, Bold Pacific Ltd., and Will Squyres Helicopter Tours.
“It’s going to be a great time. Everyone should come out and help clean up Po’ipu Beach and then enjoy a free concert,” Petersen said. For more information about the event, contact Petersen at 635-0774, or e-mail him at richie@islandsos.com.
K-PAL flag football important information
This Sunday at Isenberg Park, the Lihu’e area of K-PAL flag football will be conducting team balancing for all divisions (Cub, 5-6 years, 10 a.m., Bobcat, 7-9 years, noon, Wildcat, 10-15, 2 p.m.). It will be important that children come out to participate with the team balancing, as this will assure that children are placed on a team.
K-PAL is also recruiting for more cheer and flag football coaches. Those interested in coaching may contact Brian Kohatsu at 651-0835 or Crystal Kaya at 651-8805.
Ranch rodeo set for Sunday
A ranch rodeo will take place Sunday at the old dairy site in Waimea (Friendship Do’s Ranch Arena) at 9 a.m. Prizes will be awarded to the top ranch, and buckles will be given to the top jackpot team.
Waimea searching for soccer coaches
Waimea High School is still looking for anyone interested in coaching the Menehune boys’ and girls’ soccer teams next season. Both teams have head coaching vacancies, and those interested may contact Athletic Director Jon Kobayashi at 338-6804.
