You’re never too old to hunt for Easter eggs, but there comes a time when you just feel like giving up, just because, despite aging a few years, you still have a tough time finding that elusive last egg.
It was a travesty and, yes, a smelly situation if you couldn’t find all of the eggs, which were planted throughout your yard, a park, your house, or even at the beach.
To me, it seemed like a sport, but it didn’t require any physical talent whatsoever.
I’m not a big fan of any sport that doesn’t feature athletes who don’t need to hit the gym or take to the track.
But if you have to use your brain more than some brawn, than I’ll let it slide, and Easter-egg hunting fell into that category.
My career started at the ripe age of 4 and, boy, was it hard from the start.
However, as I got older, I began to realize that the eggs filled with a yoke weren’t as good as the ones that were plastic.
These non-edible types were very valuable, and when I say “valuable,” I mean “valuable,” filled with green papers.
But the best part of Easter-egg hunting is probably beating out the competition, whether old or young, and when the final tally is done, it’s a special feeling knowing you’ve found more eggs than that know-it-all uncle of yours.
However, when you lose to your younger cousins, then you know it’s time to hang up your finding paws and look else-where to find alternative ways to spend Easter Sunday.
This year, I’m blessed to have a nephew who will begin his Easter-egg escapade.
Although he won’t truly know the meaning of finding the most eggs or what the plastic eggs are, he’ll be just as happy to find the most attractive egg, or the one he steps on.
Easter-egg hunting began as early as last week at various places around the island, but the biggest events are going to happen at your houses today.
These are the best ones. It’s where you go up against every-one in the family.
I really don’t remember when I stopped searching for Easter eggs, but what I do remember are the instances where I won the hunt.
And that didn’t necessarily mean that I found the most eggs.
Instead, I won because it meant another few hours spent with my family. But that doesn’t mean I didn’t rub it in when my Easter basket was filled with more eggs than anyone else.
Happy Easter, and happy hunting as well!
