Most of Lydgate re-opens
County officials announced in a press release that most of the land areas at Lydgate Park where untreated wastewater mixed with a large pond of rainwater earlier this week are now open for public use, including the large pavilion and Kamalani Playground.
The only areas that remain closed are taped off with signs posted, warning the public to keep out.
Working quickly to reopen the popular park, county Department of Public Works Parks Division staff members disinfected and power-washed the affected areas the day after the sewage spill oc- curred.
Due to their efforts, most of Lydgate Park is now open for public use.
The ocean-swimming areas remain closed.
