Wailua Homesteads resident Dawn Kawahara in a press release invited anyone interested to a program, “Modern Days, Ancient Ways,” focused on the history and culture of Kaua‘i, tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. at the Borders Books, Music, Movies & Cafe in the Kukui Marketplace in Lihu‘e.
It is part of National Poetry Month festivities.
Kawahara will be drawing from her recent book, “Behold Kaua‘i,” and signing books.
She will touch briefly on subject matter from “Jackals’ Wedding,” her memoir about her early life in British India, featured in the Border’s “Staff Picks” selections.
Kawahara, who coordinated and curated the Garden Island Arts Council’s annual Poetry Fest for seven years, is a recipient of the James Vaughan award from Hawaii Pacific University for her poem included in the “Behold Kaua‘i” collection, “Approaching Nounou Mountain.” She recently won second prize in the National League of American Pen Women-Honolulu Branch poetry competition. Kawahara co-owns TropicBird Press of Wailua with her husband Delano Kawahara.
The event tomorrow is free and open to the public.
