Governor Linda Lingle and Lt. Gov. James R. “Duke” Aiona Jr. recently issued a joint Easter and Passover message:
“During this holy season of the Christian and Jewish faiths, we send greetings and best wishes to residents and visitors who are gathering to observe the holidays of Passover, Good Friday and Easter.
“Passover, which begins at sundown on April 12, celebrates the historic exodus of the Jewish people from Egypt. Led by Moses, the journey out of slavery and oppression into the promised land of ‘milk and honey’ is remembered and memorialized by families and friends at a traditional seder gathering,” they wrote.
“The Christian holy days of Good Friday and Easter, observed on April 14 and 16, mark the sacrifice of Christ through his crucifixion and his triumphant resurrection from the grave, thus bringing hope and comfort to his followers for the past 2,000 years.
“Whichever holiday you observe, may it bring you close to your loved ones and friends, and fill you with hope and joy,” they added.
