Kaua’i Planning & Action Alliance (KPAA) leaders are offering a one-day workshop for substance-abuse counselors, mental-health professionals, social workers and those who would like to become certified substance abuse counselors (CSACs), they said in a press release.
“Denial and Resistance” will be led by Dr. Michael J. Taleff, on April 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the County of Kaua’i Lihu’e Civic Center Pi’ikoi Building conference room.
Taleff, who is well known in the field of addiction and treatment, will present concepts and strategies based on his book, “A Handbook to Assess and Treat Resistance in Chemical Dependency,” addressing this complex issue.
The workshop will satisfy the requirements for 6.5 hours of continuing education credits for substance-abuse counselors and other mental-health professionals.
The cost is $20, and includes continental breakfast, lunch, and training materials. Pre-registration is required by Friday.
“This training is designed to help build skills among the island’s substance-abuse counselors and others combating the epidemic of ‘ice’ and other illegal drugs,” according to Diane Zachary, president and chief executive officer of the Kaua’i Planning & Action Alliance.
Registration information is posted on KPAA’s Web site at www.kauainetwork.org. For questions, contact KPAA’s office in Lihu’e at 632-2005.
