Members of the Kaua‘i County Charter Commission are seeking input from Kaua‘i residents on proposed amendments to the County Charter, they said in a press release.
Members of the general public are invited to participate in the process by attending community informational meetings scheduled on the following dates:
• Today, 6:30 p.m., Hanapepe Recreation Center;
• April 24, 6:30 p.m., Kapa‘a Middle School cafeteria.
At each of these meetings, there will be a presentation regarding the charter-revision process, and the proposals under consideration.
Members of the public will then have the opportunity to provide their comments to members of the Charter Commission.
“This is one of the most valuable moments for public participation in the charter-revision process,” noted Commission Chair Louis Abrams.
“All of our meetings are open to the public, but these informational meetings are specifically dedicated to reaching out to the community and asking for their input.” Abrams also expressed hope that all voters will take a look at the proposed amendments and provide commissioners with feedback on the proposals, as well as other changes they would like to see in the County Charter.

kauai.gov, click on the Charter Commission link, scroll down to the Charter Commission documents section, and click on Proposed Charter Commission Amendment (Table Notice).

Over the next several months, members of the Charter Commission will continue to hold regularly scheduled meetings to further review, study and vote on all proposals.

Following approval by a majority of members of the commission, the proposed charter amendments will be placed on the 2006 general election ballot in November.
The Charter Commission is comprised of seven -members: Abrams, Barbara Robeson, vice chair, Michael Belles, Dr. Ramon de la Pena, Linda Moriarty, Galen Nakamura and Glen Takenouchi.
