The second-to-last qualifying meet for KIF athletes commences today at Vidinha Stadium (4 p.m.).
The event is also scheduled to include KIF Relays.
After today’s meet, there’s only the West Kaua’i Rotary and another qualifier before the KIF championships on April 27-28.
However, KIF officials still haven’t ruled out the possibility of rescheduling the Mayor’s Invitational, which was originally posted for March 17-18, but due to the rain, the event was post-poned.
The HHSAA Track and Field State Championships are on May 12-13 at Kamehameha Schools on O’ahu.
At last Friday’s third qualifier, Kaua’i’s Tiffany Ikeda-Simao continued to shine with multiple wins in both the 100 and 200 meters, to go along with her long jump top finish.
Waimea’s Rachel Martin dominated in the 800 once again and teammate Carolyn Hoeckman-Percival prevailed in the 3,000 meters.
Kaua’i Allison Arakaki and Kapa’a’s Nahtice Nield took the hurdle events, with Arakaki nailing down the 100 and Nield taking the 300.
Kaua’i’s Savannah Rolling trumped the field in the high jump and Kapa’a’s Erin Pickett distanced herself in the triple jump.
Kaua’i’s Tamalyn Hasegawa (shot put) and Emma Makepa-Foley (discus) flexed their muscles in both the shot put and discus.
No big surprises in the boys’ results with Waimea’s Kenny Estes crossing first in both the 100 and 200.
Teammate Jayrald Watanabe impressed the field in the 400 and Kapa’a’s Jason Orbe-Smith climbed to the top in the 800 and 1,500.
Waimea’s Nathan Martin topped the 3,000 meters and Kapa’a’s Joe Velasco won both the 110 and 300 hurdles.
Waimea’s Chris Newcomb combed the rest of the field for qualifying high jump mark.
Teammate Kollin Morikawa triumphed both in the long and triple jump.
Meanwhile, Kapa’a’s Nathaniel Langi showed his strength in the shot put and discus for the double win.
