Members of the Kauai Filipino Centennial Celebration Committee announced the first Kaua’i Filipino-American Idol singing contest, earlier this week, as part of the year-long centennial celebration recognizing the arrival of Filipinos to Hawai’i.
There will be two categories open to the public, a teens and an adult category, they said in a press release.
Preliminaries will be held on April 15 at 2 p.m., and April 22 at 10:30 a.m., at Kukui Grove Center.
The entry deadline is 6 p.m.
April 14 for the April 15 preliminary, and 6 p.m. April 21 for the April 22 preliminary.
To participate, contestants in both categories cannot be professional performers as defined by those being paid compensation to perform, whether on a fullor part-time basis.
Four contestants will be selected from each preliminary for a total of eight finalists who will compete for first prize at the Filipino Centennial Fiesta Celebration on May 7 at the Kaua’i War Memorial Convention Hall.
Contestants will be responsible for providing their own material (music, CD, instruments, etc.). Song lyrics will not be provided by committee members.
