KAPA’A — Mathias Davis notched a hat trick Sunday to lead the Sharks to a 6-4 championship over the Blackhawks in the Squirts Division of the Kaua’i inline hockey league.
Earlier in the weekend, Davis fueled the Sharks’ drive to the championship game Friday night when he notched the winning goal with three minutes left of a 15-minute sudden death overtime. Davis finished that game with a pair of scores and an assist.
Matthew Heller finished with a hat trick and an assist to lead the Panthers to an 8-5 title in the Bantam Division, and Keala Davis finished with six goals in the Devils’ 8-6 title victory in the Midget Division.
Bryan Bodine finished with five goals to lead the Green Team to a 10-5 win over Bling Bling for the title in the Open division. Ray Berg added a pair and two assists, and Evan Gerber added a pair of goals in the win.
Davis, who earlier chalked up a dual hat trick in their Midget championship, was limited to a pair of goals and an assist to lead the Bling Bling effort.
Penni Taketa, the league’s scorekeeper, extended the league’s appreciation to all the coaches, referees, and volunteers on the successful season for Kaua’i’s keiki.
Travel teams from Kaua’i are now preparing for the Regional Playoffs that will take place in Kihei, Maui, May 26-29.
Taketa said Kaua’i will have teams in the 10 and Under, 12 and Under, 14 and Under, 16 and Under, and 18 and Under divisions.
