Music is in the air this spring, and some of it is being made by members of the Kaua‘i Community College instrumental ensembles, a KCC spokesperson said in a press release.
Members of the KCC Jazz Band and Wind Symphony perform tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. at the KCC Performing Arts Center, and at noon Saturday at Kukui Grove Center.
The music of Chuck Mangione, Toots Thielmans, Antonio Carlos Jobim and others will be heard, as well as “The Johnny Carson Show” theme, “When Sunny Gets Blue,” and more.
Those in the 40-plus-member Wind Symphony will perform John Williams’s “The Cowboys,” Gustav Holst’s “Brook Green Suite,” and other rousing band music.
The KCC Orchestra’s only performance will be May 10 at 7 p.m. at the KCC Performing Arts Center.
For the first time, Director Larry McIntosh will direct the complete “New World Symphony” by Dvorzak.
Other highlights will be two pieces by Vivaldi, including the “Concerto in C Major for Piccolo and Strings,” featuring Loren Kayfetz as soloist, and excerpts from the choral work “Gloria” featuring the Kaua‘i High Singers.
Topping off the night will be the announcement of the first Larry McIntosh Scholarship winners for graduating high-school seniors with interests in music.
All programs are presented to the public at no charge, with suggested donations of $10 per person to be used to provide direct support to the KCC instrumental-music programs.
