Deborah Hailey, librarian at Kaua‘i High School, wanted to show her students a little of the world.
She had dreams of a beautiful world globe seated on a lovely pedestal in the library, with students gathered around to discuss the world and their options.
She asked members of the Rotary Club of Kauai for assistance, and received the funds she needed to buy a large, color globe for student use.
Half of the funds for the globe came from the club members, and the other half came from an anonymous contribution, Rotary Club of Kauai members said in a press release.
Then, Ray Nitta agreed to carve a large pedestal for the globe.
“It’s so beautiful,” Hailey said.
“And the students have already been able to use it when they came in today to locate the country of Tonga, and find the site of the recent earthquake,” she added.
On hand for the dedication of “the world” was Linda Smith, principal of Kaua‘i High School.
“We truly appreciate the Rotary Club of Kauai for providing the globe, and Ray Nitta for making the stand,” she said.
