The third annual statewide Build-a-thon gets underway on Kaua‘i at 8 a.m. on June 10.
Catherine Shiningstar, resource development director for Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity said that in light of the recent rains that inundated the island of Kaua‘i, they’ve had an opportunity to catch up on some of the work pushed back due to the rains.
On June 10, Shiningstar said they’ll open up their 24-acre ‘Ele‘ele project to community volunteers for the Build-a-Thon.
“Owning one’s own home promotes personal well-being, helps children become better citizens and generates economic growth,” Mayor Bryan Baptiste said in a proclamation.
“We’ll be on site from 8 a.m. until around 2 p.m.,” Shiningstar said.
The Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity is a part of the statewide Build-a-Thon working toward doing away with substandard housing.
Members of the Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity Board were on hand for the proclamation, including president Jay Furfaro and board members Roland Licona, Jim Geddes and Bob Bartolo.
Homeowners Leonard Mahoe and the Wehrly family were also there to help announce the event.
