Around 600 teams from around the nation will trot to the CJM Country Stables in Po‘ipu for the annual Kaua‘i Classic United States Team Roping Championship this weekend (May 5-7).
“Headers and heelers are expected to travel here from all neighboring islands as well as the mainland to give local Kaua‘i cowboys a run for their money,” event coordinator Joyce Miranda said.
The contest begins on Friday at 1 p.m. and continues through the weekend with a 9 a.m. start on Saturday and Sunday.
There is no admission charge for the event. A coffee shop will be on hand for early morning refreshments and Rosie’s Lunch Wagon will be serving local style food throughout the day.
CJM Arena is located down Po‘ipu Road, about one mile past the Grand Hyatt Resort.
“Team roping is the fastest growing rodeo sport in the nation,” Miranda said.
