Coach Ferdinand “Ferdie” Marcelino started his coaching career when his son, Gavin, started playing T-ball five years ago. From baseball to soccer, coach Ferdie has not stopped coaching. He added the Kapa‘a High School girls softball team to his coaching experience serving the past two years as an assistant.
On May 13, his team, Lihu‘e Marlins, ended their Lihu‘e Baseball League 2006 Mustang season with nine wins, one loss, and two ties and thereby earning them the championship.
“Congratulations to each player and thank you for an exciting and winning season,” Marcelino said.
It was not an easy victory for the Marlins as the other Mustang division teams, the Devil Rays, Nationals and Indians, had the same goal in clinching the championship title.
However, with many hours of practice and perseverance of each player, the Marlins climbed their way to the top. The Marlins players had to work energetically, play as a team and encourage each other to get what they wanted.
“A special thank you to Head Coach Ferdie and his assistant coaches Francis Takasaki, Henry Hee, Arnold Cruz, Micah Hee and Destry Lumabao, who gave up their valuable time and voluntarily coach this great bunch of youths,” team manager Glacy Marcelino said.
“In addition, thank you to the many parents and families of each player for attending each game and providing snacks and drinks for everyone. A special thank you to Wes Masumura for his valuable advice, support, and words of encouragement,” she said.
The Rangers are the 2006 Bronco champions.
