“We want to ease some of that burden,” said Kelvin Moniz, president of the East Kaua‘i Lions Club who presented the Lihu‘e Pop Warner Association with a contribution.
“These funds will be used to acquire safety equipment for the players,” Moniz said. “It’s not for the bulky items like the shoulder pads, but for the personalized items that need to be replaced annually.”
Those pieces include the safety mouthpieces and chin straps.
“It can add up,” Moniz said. “We just want to help some of the families with this burden.”
Moniz, who also is a referee for the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation as well as Pop Warner football games, is familiar with the need for personal safety equipment and their costs.
On hand to accept the check were cheerleaders, players, coaches, and Lihu‘e Pop Warner Association Board members who were in the midst of collecting for their upcoming Tackle Football program that starts later in the summer.
