Kapa’a resident Ron Fleet will join the Lance Armstrong Foundation in Washington, D.C., on Capitol Hill in support of cancer survivors and their loved ones.
The LAF selected Ron as an advocate to participate in Livestrong Day, May 17, the LAF’s grassroots advocacy initiative to unify people affected by cancer and raise awareness about cancer survivorship issues.
“I am honored to join the LAF for Livestrong Day and look forward to the opportunity to talk with my Congressmen about important cancer survivorship issues,” said Fleet in a press release. “Participating in Livestrong Day is important to me because of my mom.”
“When my mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 1998 my family was overwhelmed with conflicting information about the disease and potential treatments. Learning about the Lance Armstrong Foundation became a guidepost for my family to navigate this alien world,” Fleet said in the release.
In addition to the LAF’s efforts in Washington, D.C., approximately 150 Livestrong Day events will be held in communities across the country to support the more than 10 million Americans who are living with, through or beyond cancer today.
Ron Fleet rides his bicycle with Lance 100 miles in Denver and Austin this year to raise funds for the LAF. To donate to the Foundation please go to www.ICycle2beatCancer.com
