Chairman and CEO of Alexander & Baldwin Inc., Allen Doane, will be the keynote speaker at the Kauai Chamber of Commerce Second Quarter Membership Meeting June 29 at the Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i Resort & Spa.
Doane’s address will focus on the current projects happening on Kaua‘i with subsidiaries A&B Properties Inc., Matson Company, Kaua‘i Commercial Company and Kaua‘i Coffee Company.
Doane joined A&B in 1991, was named president and CEO in 1998, and gained his current title in April.
From 1988 to 1990, Doane was chief operating officer of The Shidler Group, and prior to that, group vice president of IU International Corporation, former parent company of C. Brewer, from 1985 to 1988. He joined C. Brewer in 1975, and in 1979, was transferred to Philadelphia, the corporate headquarters of IU.
He is a director of First Hawaiian Bank, its parent company, BancWest Corporation, and Pacific Guardian Life Insurance Company. He also serves on the boards of a number of community organizations. Doane is past Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce of Hawai‘i.
Doane is a graduate of Brigham Young University and holds a master’s degree in business administration from Harvard Business School. He served as an officer in the U. S. Navy for four years.
In addition to Doane’s keynote address, A&B will celebrate 100 years of service to Kaua‘ i through Kaua‘i Commercial Company Inc., and A&B’s Wainiha Power Plant.
At the same dinner, the Chamber will also present its scholarship awards to Llana Lei Castillo-Jimenez of Kapa‘a High School, Chad Nonaka of Kaua‘i High School, and Diandra Malama of Waimea High School. The Chamber will also recognize Nelson Batalion, a Kaua‘i Community College graduate scholarship recipient.
