The City of Los Angeles, under the administration of Mayor James K. Hahn, awarded a certificate of commendation to Kaua‘i’s Dr. Rosemary Catbagan Veneigas.
Veneigas is currently an associate director of research for the intervention care center for HIV identification at the University of California, Los Angeles. Veneigas worked with the city’s AIDS leadership Council to craft a blueprint that enhances continuing efforts that reduce the transmission of HIV and AIDS. She and the council hope to fight the HIV and AIDS stigma and discrimination and provide high quality services for people living with HIV and AIDS in communities throughout Los Angeles.
Veneigas is a Kaua‘i High and UH grad.
A scholar from UH, Veneigas received a scholarship towards her master’s degree and doctorate in psychology with a minor in measurements and psychometrics at UCLA. She was also the recipient of the shepherd Ivory Franz Distinguished Teaching Award.
Veneigas was the graduate speaker at the doctoral hooding ceremony attended by her parents, Ernest and Juanita Veneigas, and her brother Christopher Ernest at UCLA.
Veneigas has traveled nationwide giving convention reports and as a convention speaker. She last visited Hawai‘i in January when she conducted a statewide workshop for HIV and AIDS identification, prevention and treatment services.
