The County of Kaua‘i issued yesterday its response to a challenge of the mayoral race results after the primary election on Sept. 23.
Mayor Bryan Baptiste was named the winner of that race by two votes avoiding a run-off with second-place finisher Jesse Fukushima.
Third-place finisher John Hoff recently filed a court challenge with the state Supreme Court.
Hoff said yesterday he’s challenging the electronic vote-tallying machines, which are sensitive and have a margin of error. With such “a close election, it has to be a clean win,” Hoff said yesterday.
Hoff wants the Hawai‘i Supreme Court to look at the machines.
The county’s response to the court action was to request a motion to dismiss.
