Cathy Shanks was headed west, but not before getting up early to take in the Kaua‘i United Way Walk. Plans were to go to the ‘Ele‘ele School book sale/craft fair before checking in at the Keiki Story Festival in Hanapepe.

Hats off to all the organizers of the walk … Mary Lardizabal and her Kapa‘a Middle School students did a great job with the national anthem, as did the Kaua‘i High School sophomore who played it on his violin Friday night.
Maj. Victor Aguilar had his Waimea J.R.O.T.C. cadets out for the walk, and still made it back for the cross country championships — great job, Kurt Correa and Sean Magoun!
Col. Jerald Knudsen’s Kapa‘a J.R.O.T.C. cadets worked the Taro Festival in Hanalei, but several left early to compete in the KIF bowling championships.
Congratulations to Rodney Haraguchi and his ‘ohana for doing such a great job with that event. Mike Teruya has been photographing this event since it started and got help from Warren Onishi (when did he retire?). Coach Mits Yokotake (Pizzetta mo’ betta’) was great for ad libbing while Naomi Yokotake adjusted the keiki dancers.
Chef Martina Hilldorfer was busy at the Hilton dedication and still made it to the Taro Festival where patrons made short work of her samples … nex’ time need 300 instead of 100.
Thomas Noyes was supposed to be at a visioning meeting, but had to check on the progress of the Lydgate Park cleanup Saturday, but Pastor Fran Becker had everything in control.
Happy Halloween, Kaua‘i! Stay safe!
