Congratulations to coach Shawn Doo and the Maryknoll boys volleyball team on their HHSAA Div. II championship!
Coach Shawn used to coach the Kaua‘i High School boys team and his two assistant coaches, Jason Sahara and Matt Miguel, both played for him as Red Raiders. The two are now University of Hawai‘i students, and for Jason, the experience is serving him well as he is aspiring to become a P.E. teacher and hopefully coach a team one day.
Coach Shawn always used to tell his players to strive for the next level, and being from Kaua‘i makes this championship even more special for him. I guess it’s celebration time at Eastside Grille after all that searching for practice gyms (Maryknoll doesn’t have its own gym) and having to start the tourney without two of his starters.
Kudos to Waimea coach Tony Magaoay and the Menehune, boys who left Kaua‘i not quite 100 percent, but held their own at the championships.
Hats off to Debbie Chuckas and the employees at Macy’s in Kukui Grove for giving the library of books and goodies to the Lihu‘e Early Learning Center!
Jenny and Chris Fujita had the family in tow at the mall as they were heading for the grand opening of Underground Friday evening … was also nice to see Tom and Carmen Legacy checking out the mall before settling in for some grinds.
Now, following the PGA Grand Slam of Golf (Nick Abramo has a homecoming), make sure you check out some of the parade before heading out to check out the Waimea softball tournament.
