Grasshoppers face Devils for hockey title

KAPA‘A — With only one more game remaining on the Bantam division’s inline hockey schedule, the Grasshoppers are set to battle the Devils for the title.

To set the stage for the title game, Kirsten McCracken paced the Grasshoppers with a goal and two assists Saturday and Christian Perdue followed with a goal and an assist as the Grasshoppers dispatched the Piranhas 4-2.

Marcus Punua and Stephanie Steuri aided the win with a goal each while Matt Heller had an assist.

Despite posting a strong save percentage of 85.7 percent, Piranha goalkeeper Kiana Tremblay faced almost twice as many shots, 28, as his Grasshopper counterpart, who faced 15.

Cascade Mayer and Kaysie Ota scored both Piranha goals, and Kala Yee tallied an assist.

The Piranhas returned to action Sunday but dropped a 7-6 contest against the Devils in a decidedly more offensive showdown.

Against the Devils, Kiana saved 40 of 47 shots, while Devil keeper Cydney Sitzler finished with 34 saves on 40.

If the Grasshoppers and Devils tie, there will be a one-game playoff to decide the title.

In the Squirt division, Eli Leech-Kritchman finished with eight goals over two days to lead the Sharks to the title outright in a sweep of the Dragons.

Eli had four goals on each outing.

Chanel Tremblay also had four goals and an assist as the Sharks easily took Game 1 14-7 over the Dragons and Game 2 10-6 to clinch the title.

Gavin Bryan and Thor Haughland each finished with three goals.

On Sunday, the Sharks got another two goals and an assist from Chanel and three goals and an assist from Gavin.

Troy Spears paced the Dragons Saturday with three goals and a pair of assists. On Sunday, Marissa Aceret took charge on the offensive end, netting two goals.

Eric Potter added three Dragon goals Saturday and Marissa added another.

Robin Bihm finished with an assist.
