Kauai Dance Theatre continues its 21st year when the winter/spring term classes begin Jan. 17 in Kalaheo and Jan. 18 in Lihu‘e. The 16-week term coordinates breaks and holidays with the public school calendar and includes performances at the Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall.
Kauai Dance Theatre’s objective to provide classical training in the art of dance so that the student can gain experience, enjoyment and appreciation for dance through progressive improvement and advancement in his or her chosen art form, and has served students who have gone on to professional careers in dance performance or teaching. It has also helped those who pursued higher education and careers in other fields.
“The discipline, grace and physical exertion demanded by classical dance training can be appreciated by both the serious and the casual student alike,” said director Janie Crane.
Kauai Dance Theatre’s program offers various levels of ballet and pointe, tap, jazz dance and creative movement for students 4 years old and older.
Morning exercise sessions for adults, “Stretch and Tone” and “Ballet Tone,” are ongoing and new attendees are welcome at any time. While most classes are held at the Kalaheo studio, ballet is also offered at the Lihu‘e Parish Hall.
