Tyrus Ceria-Lux, finishing with 16 points in the win, ignited the baseball boys with a slam at the 4:08 mark, setting the Red Raider baseball players on fire as they cheered each Kaua‘i point.
Following a shooting doldrum in the second period, Justin Ramos pulled Kaua‘i ahead for good on a trey.
Kapa‘a trimmed a 19-9 first period deficit by holding Kaua‘i to just 2 points while firing off three-pointers from Kila Youn and Kekoa Prem. A Halem Medina bucket with 4:45 left in the half pulled Kapa‘a ahead 22-21, then Ramos ignited the Raiders, who came up with 15 points for a 35-28 halftime lead.
Following Ceria-Lux, Basil Walton finished with 14 points and Ramos ended with 13 points, including three three-pointers.
Kapa‘a’s Youn had a game-high 18 points to lead the Warriors. Prem followed with a dozen marks to round out the effort.
Kapa‘a hosts Waimea as Round 2 starts Tuesday night. Tipoff for the JV game is 5:30 p.m., with the varsity contest to follow.
