“Unwrapped,” an original theater production created by six talented young Kaua‘i women, is the product of a three-week, intensive theater workshop called What Girls Know, Kaua‘i.
The young playwrights/actresses, ages 15-19, now have a chance to share their creation and their talent with the Kaua‘i community.
“Unwrapped” is based on their own experiences, hopes, fears and dreams.
Brenda Currin, a New York-based actress, director, educator and founder of What Girls Know, brought the program to the island last month, under the auspices of the YWCA’s Sexual Assault Treatment Program, the Department of Health/Center for Disease Control and Island School.
Calling it “a theater approach to trying on life,” Currin created What Girls Know out of her desire for adolescent girls to thrive and succeed.
“Unwrapped” will be performed one night only, Saturday, at Kaua‘i Community College Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m.
Admission is free for students, and there is a $10 suggested donation for adults.
