The 30th Annual Captain Cook Caper Runs of 2K, 5K and 10K were held this past Saturday in conjunction with the Waimea Town Celebration. There were 247 runners.
The closest race was the 5K, featuring 13-year-old Pierce Murphy battling down to the wire with Masters athlete Basil Scott. Murphy, an 8th-grader at Kula School, won by a second with a time of 18:02, over Scott’s 18:03.
The first female in the 5K was Maureen McAnany, a visitor from New York who runs track at her high school.
Waimea High School’s Jared Coleman-Stark won the 2K with a time of 6:49. Natasha Abadilla, also of Waimea High, won the female division with a time of 9:20.
Mark Bogner won the 10K with a time of 36:15 and the female winner, Marie Skello, finished with a time of 38:49.
The Tangalin family took honors for the most entrants and the most winners in one family at the Capt. Cook Caper held over the weekend.
