At least four boats were attached to temporary moorings after a small, middle portion on one of two concrete catwalks at the Port Allen Small Boat Harbor fell into the water yesterday morning.
The state Department of Land and Natural Resources closed down the use of the catwalk — measuring about 40 feet long — in the spring of 2005, but despite warnings, boaters continued using the structure, according to a concerned caller to The Garden Island.
Joseph Borden, the Kaua‘i district manager for DLNR Small Boat Harbors division, was not available for comment.
