A Kaua‘i fugitive picked up last week on the Big Island has been extradited, arraigned and held on $100,000 bail, according to the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
Matthew Davidson, 33, was arrested in Hilo after the Kaua‘i Police Department sent word to Hawai‘i officials that he was traveling with a woman in Ho‘okena, Hilo and Puna.
Davidson is charged with second-degree attempted murder, for which he was indicted by a grand jury on Jan. 22.
The charge stems from Davidson allegedly pushing a van into a Kapa‘a canal on Dec. 25 while Cheryl Kaleiohi was still inside the vehicle.
Officers caught up with Davidson on Apapane Street Wednesday morning, but he tried to flee, according to the Hilo Police Department.
He was taken into custody later that morning and extradited. He was arraigned Thursday.
Davidson’s trial date is May 29.
