Linda M. Rabago of Lihu‘e died April 25, 2007, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 59.
Born in Waimea, she worked for many years for Grove Farm and most recently at Child Support Enforcement Agency.
She is survived by her husband Eldren Rabago of Lihu‘e; sons Kevin Rabago of San Jose, Calif., Jason Hall of San Jose, Calif and Elton (Lizil) Rabago of Lihu‘e; daughter Lynel Rabago of Puhi; mother Marcelina Bungcayao of Puhi; brother Fred Bungcayao of Princeville; sister Trina (Albert) Wong of Wailua; brother Dominic Bungcayao of Kirkland, Wash.; and four nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, May 5, from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, where Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Kauai Veterans’ Cemetery in Hanapepe.
Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Evelyn Brown
Evelyn May Brown, who has long maintained a residence in Princeville, died on April 20, 2007, at the age of 92.
Born May 18, 1914, in Chico, Calif., after graduating from high school, she attended Chico Community College and later received her degree in economics from UC Berkeley. She had also lived in Modesto, Calif., for the past 10 years after 50 years on the poultry ranch that she and her husband Earl built in Ceres, Calif.
Evelyn and Earl loved to travel, becoming avid photographers during their travels and winning many awards at the Modesto Color Photography Club. They visited Africa, traveled through China and visited her ancestral lands, England and Scotland, but their favorite place was Hawai‘i, where, after visiting many times, they built a house in 1989.
Strongly independent, Evelyn continued to travel to Kaua‘i twice a year after Earl died in 1991 even though she was almost completely blind for the last three years of her life until returning from her last trip there in August 2006. In the last few months, she frequently expressed regrets to her family that, due to declining health, she could no longer continue to travel to her house in Princeville for part of the year. She truly loved Kaua‘i and was even seen accompanying the Hanalei hula dance group, doing all the hand motions, at her 90th birthday party in Princeville.
Evelyn was very active in community affairs. She was a member of Persephone Guild and the Study Club in Ceres and also served as a volunteer for the Memorial Hospital Association in Modesto.
On Kaua‘i she continued her community involvement. She was an active member of the Waioli Hui‘ia Church in Hanalei and a member of the Mokihana Club women’s organization. She also worked as a docent at the Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge. Even after she was no longer able to help with tours of the grounds she continued to work in the Lighthouse gift shop.
She is survived by her children Susan Martin of Modesto and David Brown of Los Angeles; grandchildren Joaquin Brown of Laguna Beach, Alejandro Brown of Seattle, Wash., Corey Ploutz and Kerri Vasquez of Modesto, Calif., step-grandchildren Maria Elisa Posada of Los Angeles, and Paula Posada of Medellin, Colombia, Grant Martin of Washington D.C., and James Martin of Modesto; four great-grandchildren Isiah, and Gabriella of Modesto, Isaac of Laguna Beach, and Nikki of Seattle; and brother-in-law Chuck Brown of Ceres.
She was preceded in death in 1991 by Earl Brown, her husband of 49 years, her sister and brother, Lucille Leisure of Eugene, Ore. and Elwood Cooper of Homestead, Fla.
Services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 28, at the Harvest Presbyterian Church, 1813 Moffet Road in Ceres. Viewing will be Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Franklin and Downs Colonial location at 12th and G in Modesto.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that friends honor Evelyn’s life with gifts in her name to the charity of their choice.
