Members of The Salvation Army Kaua‘i Bible Bowl Team will represent the Hawaiian and Pacific Islands Division in the Territorial Bible Bowl Playoffs to be held in Cerritos, California, in June 2007.
The team participated in a divisional playoff recently in Honolulu and was victorious over a team which combined teens from The Salvation Army Kahului Corps on Maui and Hilo Temple Corps on the Big Island.
“The Salvation Army Bible Bowl program was instituted to get young people into God’s Word. It involves intensive Bible study and Bible memorization of the New Testament Book of Acts. Teams compete against one another by answering Bible quiz questions. They receive points according to the questions’ degree of difficulty. Team members must be 12 n 18 years of age and active members of The Salvation Army church,” states a recent press release sent by Joy Groenleer.
The Kaua‘i Bible Bowl Team, made up of teens from the Hanapepe and Lihu‘e Salvation Army Corps, is gearing up to challenge other teams from The Salvation Army West U.S.A. Territory.
There are 10 divisions in this territory, some of which include Alaska, Cascade, Golden State, Southern California, Northwest, Intermountain and our Hawaiian and Pacific Islands Division.
Members of the Kaua‘i Bible Bowl Team are Christyann Clement (team captain), Austin Gampong (co-captain), Penitha Langbata, Hemily Clement, PJ Gampong and Lani Garania. Coaches are Capt. Angela Clement and Lt. Joy Groenleer from the Lihu‘e and Hanapepe Salvation Army Corps respectively.
Donations are being accepted to help defray the cost of sending this special team to California for the finals.
For more information call Capt. Mitham Clement at 245-2571 (Lihu‘e Salvation Army) or Lt. Larry Groenleer at 335-5441 (Hanapepe Salvation Army).
