Mokihana swimmers heading to Sakamoto
Mokihana Aquatics Swim Club will be sending seven of its swimmers to compete at the 33rd Annual Coach Soichi Sakamoto Memorial Invitational Swim Meet this weekend.
Logged into 55 individual events (23 female, 32 male), the Mokihana contingent will be led by 10-year-old Yasmine Ware who will participate in 10 events, in all of which she holds QUAL times.
Kyson Gusukuma, a senior at Kaua‘i High School, will be competing in one of his last meets before graduation.
He is logged into 10 events, four of which he holds QUAL times for, and six with HIAA times.
Kelsey Tanaka, 16, is logged into eight events, in three of which he holds QUAL times.
Evan Hamamoto, 12, is scheduled to participate in 10 events, one of which he holds QUAL time in, seven HIAA times, and two HI-A times.
Kesia Anaya, 14, is logged into nine events with two QUAL times, six HIAA times and one HI-A time.
Kaitlin Santos, 12, will be participating in four events along with Ryan Valenciano, 12, to round out the Mokihana contingent.
Ueoka co-medals at sectional qualifiers
Miki Ueoka, (Lihu‘e), and Summer Mizusawa, (Hilo) were co-medalists at the Lihu‘e Sectional Qualifier for the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links at Wailua Golf Course.
Both players scored 76, and qualified to play in the championships at the Kerney Hill Golf Links Course from June 18 to 23. First alternate will be Cyd Okino from Honolulu with a score of 77, second alternate is Kelli Oride (79) from Lihu‘e. The 31st U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship will be played in Lexington, Kentucky.
The Wailua Golf Course was in beautiful condition playing at 6,100 yards with some very challenging hole locations.
The Women’s Amateur Public Links is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs.
