After business owners Chris Jensen and Kevin Hurst pleaded with the public and police to find the man they believe broke into the Old Cannery Fuels Co. recently, police arrested a suspect yesterday morning.
Savon Tuazon, 26, was arrested on second-degree criminal property damage and fourth-degree theft charges.
Hurst and Jensen had footage that revealed clues to the burglary, which resulted in at least $6,000 in damages, $4,500 in estimated losses and the loss of $50 in cash.
After the arrest, Tuazon posted bail — $1,000 for the first charge and $50 for the second — and was released shortly thereafter.
Despite that, Hurst, who received calls all day with tips resulting from the front page article in The Garden Island yesterday, said he wanted to thank officers Shelli Rodrigues and Chad Cataluna for making the arrest.
According to police records, Tuazon has 14 previous offenses, including two class C felonies, both for unauthorized control of a private vehicle. His criminal history, which dates back to 2001, also includes fourth-degree theft charges, criminal contempt of court, revoked probation and fraudulent use of a license plate.
