Surfing brothers Bruce and Andy Irons finished first in their heats last week in the Billabong Pro in Tahiti.
Bruce posted a 9.17 for one of his waves, putting him in the top 10 for individual performances. His combined score of 11.84 in Heat 2, Round 1 gave him a convincing win over Josh Kerr and Victor Ribas, bringing him to Round 2.
Andy’s combined score of 12.50 over Hira Teriinatoofa and fellow Hawai‘i surfer Fred Patacchia pushed him to the next round.
Round 2, however, has yet to be called.
No change in swell since Monday has forced event organizers to call another lay day for the Billabong Pro Tahiti.
Surf in the 1-to 3-foot range is dribbling down the points and surfers and event organizers alike are waiting for more optimal conditions to begin the Round 2 action.
Official forecasters for the Billabong Pro Tahiti at Surfline are calling for a slight bump from the south/southwest tomorrow evening for a possible start on Friday or Saturday morning.
When action recommences, Round 2 of the Billabong Pro Tahiti will feature the current ratings leader on the Foster’s ASP World Tour, Taj Burrow, square off against lethal Tahitian wildcard Manoa Drollet.
When the swell picks up, the Billabong Pro Tahiti will be webcast on www.aspworldtour.com and www.billabongpro.com.
The Billabong Pro is the third event on the Fosters Men’s ASP World Tour.
