Longing for music that wings, marches, surprises and moves you?
The Kaua‘i Community College Jazz Ensemble and Wind Symphony will perform together under the direction of Larry McIntosh, in a free jazz and wind concert Saturday at 7 p.m. at KCC.
The Jazz Ensemble will perform George and Ira Gershwin’s “Summertime,” featuring Rhoda Libre on vocals, “Busy Women Blues,” Luiz Bonfa’s “Black Orpheus,” “Livin’ Larger than Life” and “Come Fly With Me.”
The Wind Symphony will perform Robert Jager’s “Third Suite — March, Waltz and Rondo,” Ravel’s “Pavanne (For a Dead Princess)” with guest conductor Elizabeth Gullotta; a Big Band Showcase and Jerry Brubaker’s “Heritage.”
The concert is free but donations of any amount will be used to support the KCC Instrumental Music programs, which consist of a Wind Symphony, Jazz Ensemble and Orchestra, under McIntosh’s direction.
The ensembles perform two times each year, a winter holiday concert in December and a spring performance in May. Musicians from KCC ensembles also perform in a variety of small ensembles, including a string quartet, brass ensemble and clarinet choir.
