Michael Shimizu
Michael Kenji Shimizu of Lihu‘e died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on June 6, 2007, at the age of 52.
Born in Lihu‘e, on Aug. 24, 1954, he was preceded in death by parents Kenneth and Yoshie Shimizu; and siblings, Kathleen Kaohi and Allen Shimizu.
He is survived by brothers Raymond (Susan) Shimizu of Villa Park, Calif., and Glenn (Millie) Shimizu of Torrance, Calif.; sisters Edith (Robert) Harada of Gardena, Calif., and Lillian (Kerry) Yokoyama of Waimea.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 14, at the Hanapepe Hongwanji Temple. Casual attire is suggested and flowers omitted.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Thyres Kaylen Simao
Thyres Kaylen Simao of Waikoloa died June 1, 2007, at Kona Community Hospital at the age of 24.
Born May 6, 1983, in Waimea, he was a landscaper for Arborist Services, LLC in Kamuela and formerly employed with Fisher Construction.
He is survived by his mother Trudy (William) Silva of Waikoloa; father Luke (Blythe) Simao, Sr. of Hanapepe; sisters Zada Simao of Waikoloa, Saydi Silva of Waimea; brothers Dillion Silva of Waimea, Luke Simao Jr. of Hanapepe; maternal grandparents Henry (Cleo) Bermoy of Kalaheo; step-father Mark Silva of Waimea; numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
A memorial service was held at Holoholokai (Paniau) Beach Park, Maunalani. A service will also be held at 4:30 p.m. June 16, at “Inters” Beach in Kekaha. Scattering of ashes will follow immediately.
Arrangements are being handled by Cremation Services of West Hawai‘i.
Hazel V. Brown (Rapozo)
Hazel V. Brown (Rapozo) of Kapa‘a died at home on June 2, 2007, at the age of 75 after a 17-year battle with thyroid cancer.
At the age of 17, she met her late ex-husband Raymond J. Rapozo in Germany. They married in 1948 and moved to Kaua‘i and had six children. She worked as a cook at St. Catherine Convent and the cafeteria. At the age of 47, she attended adult classes to get her GED and went on to nursing school. She graduated one of the top three in her class, worked at Queen’s Hospital on the orthopedic floor and went on to private duty until she retired.
Preceded in death by son David Rapozo, she is survived by daughter Sandra (Alan) Palmeira of Kapa‘a; sons Nolan (Dee Ann) Rapozo of Lihu‘e, Steve (Diane) Rapozo of Lihu‘e, Raymond (Dorena SanAugustine) Rapozo Jr. of Kealia, Charles (Tina) Rapozo of Hanama‘ulu, Steven Ichiriu of Los Angeles, Michael (Yuki) Ichiriu of San Jose, special friend Dr. Edward Ichiriu of O‘ahu; daughter-in-law Diane Guitierez (David Rapozo); sister Merle Synder of Cincinnati; brother Hobert (Jane) Brown of Minnesota; 27 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at St. Catherine Church on Saturday, June 16. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., Mass to follow. Burial will be private at a later date.
