Nelson “Nellie” F. Mendonca of ‘Ele‘ele, died at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital on May 29, 2007, at the age of 67.
Born in ‘Ele‘ele on Jan. 26, 1940, he was the Fire Captain with Kalaheo Fire Station.
Preceded in death by son, Dwayne Mendonca, he is survived by his wife, Marcy Mendonca of ‘Ele‘ele; sons, Dana (Sandee) Tayco of Lathrop, Calif., David Tayco of Lathrop, Calif., Sean Tayco of Waimea and Patrick (Venus) Tayco of Lincoln, Calif.; daughters Debbie (Bob) Hollyer of Bainbridge Island, Wash., Rhonda (Eric) Wilmurt of Foster City, Calif., Stay (Frank) Keen of Hawai‘i Kai, O‘ahu; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Loretta (Pat) Merrel of San Martin, Calif. and Helen (Joe) Dickens of Sunnyvale, Calif.; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Friday, June 8, at ‘Ele‘ele Sacred Hearts Catholic Church. Mass officiated by Father Nap will begin at 10 a.m. followed by burial at Kauai Veterans cemetery in Hanapepe.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
George Mullahy
George Thomas Mullahy of Kilauea died at his home on May 31, 2007, at the age of 80. Born in Detroit, Mich., on Dec. 4, 1926, he was a retired surveyor with Engineers Union Local #3.
He is survived by sons Mark Mullahy of Kilauea and Cory Mullahy of Windsor, Calif.; daughter-in-law Jean Mullahy; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 9, at the Hanalei Pavilion. Casual attire is suggested.
